6 KEYS TO WHOLE SELF HEALING
WHY WHOLE SELF HEALING IS IMPORTANT
One thing that often prevents us from completing the work we know in our hearts we are meant to do is the illusion of separation and isolation.
Being able to receive is as much of a skill as learning how to give, and balance is the foundation of healing. It’s much easier for healing to occur when we address the whole of who we are.
Here is a list of 6 things to support ourselves in whole self healing.
1. NATURE
I take as much time as I can to be in nature. Nature heals us in ways that are beyond our intellect. Many scientific studies demonstrate that direct physical contact with the vast supply of electrons on the surface of the earth has profound positive effects on our physical bodies. While this new research feels incredibly affirming, all you have to do to feel the healing power of nature is take a walk and notice how you feel. Bonus points for smelling the blooming lilacs and listening to the white throated sparrow songs.
2. COMMUNITY
By nature, humans are designed to contribute to a collective purpose while also honoring their unique energy. Research about the parts of the world with the highest life expectancy show that a long life is consistently accompanied by a strong sense of community.
Even if you don’t live in one of these places, (called The Blue Zones), there are a myriad of ways to foster community. My dear friend, Vanessa Cornell, has made it a huge part of her life’s work to create experiences, spaces, and techniques that help empower the natural connector within us all. The work I have seen in NUSHU is incredibly aligned with Being Your Own Healer, without going at life alone, and I have had only the most enriching experiences with all things NUSHU.
NUSHU Group is a modality that relies on the premise that we are all whole and that the answers we seek are all found inside us. If you are feeling called to nurture your innate capacity to connect deeply with others, or longing to build containers of trust, I highly suggest you explore NUSHU offerings which include NUSHU Group, retreats, trainings, and curated events with some of the top thought leaders in the wellness world. They are also offering a free masterclass – How To Hold Space for Your Teenager – on May 3rd.
3. CREATIVITY
There is a very deep connection between healing and creativity. After all, the human body produces 330 billion new cells everyday. To be human is to allow creativity to flow through you, and creative energy is healing energy.
If you want to heal your inner artist, make time for them to paint, draw, dance, and engage in what inspires you without asking yourself to produce, judge, or assess anything at all. Notice how you feel when you create a beautiful Ritual Bath from your own imagination. Engage in creative acts big and small and notice how your energy shifts.
4. SILENCE
To balance the medicine of expression and creation, silence is the medicine. In the world of constant distraction and grabbing for our attention, learning to focus and quiet oneself is incredibly powerful. When you sit in silence for twenty minutes a day, you become very clear on what is your energy, and what is not, what is meant for you, and what is not. If you want to know yourself, to feel the miracle of the biggest part of you, meet it with the potent offering of silence.
5. INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE
While I love the medicine of plants, and the practices and ceremonies that are central to the Mama Medicine world, I also believe very much that there is a time and place for Integrative Medicine.
Navigating our health in the traditional system can feel really overwhelming; Our healthcare system lacks a sense of continuity and personal relationship. I really believe in the work that The Lanby is doing. They center the patient, and look at health from many perspectives, all while helping you navigate the technical aspects of the healthcare system. If you are feeling called to really care for and nurture your physical vessel, I highly recommend checking out The Lanby.
6. PLAY
Being in a state of play is very close to being in a flow state. While productivity experts prize the state of flow as one that helps us do more, I believe in allowing ourselves to have fun because it is healthy and a doorway to joy. Play minimizes stress by triggering feel-good endorphins and improving brain function.
