ENCHANTMENT RITUAL
The world enchantment comes from the latin word incantare, which connects to the spanish word cantar, which means to sing. Singing is a practice laced into many ancient and present-day earth revering traditions that allows us to tune the waters of our bodies, soothe our nervous systems and remember the most ancient and perhaps universal ways of knowing.
You might notice the word chant in the center of enchantment. This gives you a beautiful clue as to how you can create an enchantment for yourself.
For a witch, an enchantment is a is a magical string of words, somewhere between a poem and a song to anchor your intention into sound.
When we speak our intentions aloud, we breathe life into them, and like a chant, we can feel the power of our enchantment when its rhythm is naturally repeatable with sounds that catalyze us. We might even feel lost in our chant as it mesmerizes us with its magic.
It’s so interesting that the other definition of enchantment is: a sense of wonder or delight, because when we approach our magic like a child, with a sense of openness but with no expectation, we invite all of creation to receive our intention with open arms.
create your own enchantment
What you need:
A private quiet space The purity of your heart
Something to record your voice
A journal and a pen
Ritual:
While an enchantment is a song-like version of a spell, to create your own enchantment in a truly magical way, the key ingredient is actual total silence.
When we get totally silent we are able to hear with our Witch’s ear, and what we hear is often our own voice or connection to the our soul: the part of us that understands we are both nature and the great mystery.
To create your own enchantment,
Get very quiet and if possible go to a place in nature where you feel absolute solitude.
If you can’t be in nature, take a few deep breaths and imagine yourself in a lush green forest in your Witch’s eye.
Take a few deep breaths into your heart space, and focus on an intention that feels like it is for the highest good of all involved.
After you have a sense of your intention, whether it is something very specific or more of a feeling, like health and happiness, take three deep breaths.
After the third breath, sit in total silence for 1-3 minutes.
Let a song, phrase or sound come to you from this quiet place.
If you want to remember it, record it or write it down. Perhaps it’s just a healing sound that represents your intention. You might also hear a poem or song. Allow it to come through as it is, knowing that it can be as simple as a child’s nursery rhyme or perhaps a full song.
Spend time singing it aloud as you focus on your heart’s intention. Sing to the forest. Sing to yourself. Sing to the great mystery.
When you feel complete, if it feels right, say “blessed be.”
Thank the song that came through you.
Thank the forest and your own beautiful heart.
Receive a feeling of enchanting gratitude.
Place your enchantment in a special book for your spells and creative magic.
