CHIRON RETROGRADE

THE COMET OF THE WITCH WOUND

We are so incredibly lucky to be living in a time when acknowledging our traumas and being able to connect with others who have faced similar challenges to us is accessible and accepted in many pockets of the world.

There is so much beauty in being able to be open about what we have been through, but it is also important to remember that we are so much more than our difficulties, our pain, and our wounds. In my experience, when we give all of our power to a single aspect of our identity or try to throw away a part of our past, we miss the incredible potential for transforming our wounds into something that can help us serve the collective.

On July 19th, in this month of Growth Through Challenge, (get the full download here if you missed it), Chiron, the celestial body that represents the Wounded Healer, goes retrograde.

Chiron reminds me of what Sufi mystic and poet, Rumi, said, "The wound is where the light enters you."

In Greek mythology, Chiron is the abandoned child, who goes on to become a master healer. The word Chiron translates to 'hands' and is the etymological source for word surgeon.

To create purpose and focus in his life, Chiron devoted himself to the healing arts, music, and prophecy, learning to alchemize a sense of abandonment into a life of service and connection through learning, healing and creating beauty.

a time of deep internal healing

When Chiron goes retrograde in Aries, we are supported in healing our wounds on a deeper internal level. With Chiron in Aries from 2019 to 2027, we are finding the courage to face the fear of pioneering the changes we want to see in the world, in our lineages and in our futures. In Aries, Chiron asks us to be brave enough to feel the wounds within us and to let pain teach us what it is we can offer others when we let our wounds become wisdom.

The Rumi quote I mentioned above is actually about Chiron.

The poem goes,

"Your doctor must have a broken leg to doctor.
Your defects are the ways that glory gets manifested.
Whoever sees clearly what’s diseased in himself
Begins to gallop on the Way
Don’t turn your head. Keep looking at the bandaged place.
That’s where the light enters you."

This is a time where facing our challenges head on has so much potential for change, a time in which our grief and rage can become fuel for transformation. But just like the sacred element of fire, we have to approach the fires within us with sensitivity and respect in order to channel their power into generative destruction, rather than allow them to consume us.

When we sit with presence and centeredness, our pain and the fire it lights within us becomes a fire that can transform anything.
