Don’t let the ego trick you, the tools you use to numb out are not Ritual — they are Habitual. When our senses are numb, we are easier to control. Ego will always find a way to excuse numbing habits such as the over use of alcohol, cannabis and screen time. Tune outs and distractions won’t activate our peaceful parasympathetic nervous system. Numbing patterns cause more stress holistically. Our liver gets angry, we let vague worries and fears run on and block us up, and we feel triggered by everything…why take these risks?

Do you ever feel curious about what your potential could be if you stopped numbing out? Maybe great shifts would occur. Maybe you would cry, scream, heal. Maybe you would recall how to truly have fun and let loose? Maybe you could stop pretending that what you think, say and do doesn’t matter.

I say we relinquish the Habitual escaping and instead, call in parasympathetic nervous system inducing Rituals. Not habits, not patterns, real Rituals.

A real Ritual will leave you feeling very present, and the practice of presence alone will calm your senses. When you are present, you are aware and when you are aware, you are protected.
